Queen of the Commoners...

First, allow me this disclosure...I am of Irish descent, so my views of  the British are, well, skewed....My grandmother often told me tales of horror about British soldiers stabbing babies in their beds..My mother said none of it was true, but I was never sure....

Okay, fast forward to 2011, and here we have the Royal Wedding of Prince William and "Commoner" Kate Middleton, who like many women, got her M.R.S in college...They seem like a lovely couple, and not to deny them lifetimes of happiness, I cringe every time I hear them refer to her as a 'commoner,' and that this 'wedding of the century,' and this Royal family who is paid $13 million a year in welfare by British Taxpayers is say, 'more' worthy than the rest of us. That there still is a monarchy in the UK shocks me, but that Americans buy into it, is more shocking. "Royal" Blood may be a euphemism for many things, mostly racist, rich, and aristocratic, but it is nonetheless, a facade, and nothing more. The Royals are notoriously inbred, and whatever bloodlines they think they possess, their DNA tells a different story, and the current Brits are mostly German, and with Princess Diana's mixture, a little bit American.  George V changed the name of the royal house from Saxe-Coburg and Gotha to the more British sounding House of Windsor in 1917.

Although in the United Kingdom there is no strict legal or formal definition of who is or is not a member of the Royal Family, and different lists will include different people, those carrying the style Her or His Majesty (HM), or Her or His Royal Highness (HRH) are always considered members, which usually results in the application of the term to the monarch, the consort of the monarch, the widowed consorts of previous monarchs, the children of the monarch and previous monarchs, the male-line grandchildren of the monarch and previous monarchs, and the spouses and the widows of a monarch's and previous monarch's sons and male-line grandsons. We all know "Royalty" is just another form of Hitler's Final Solution, albeit, a much more antiquated one.  And, as this Royal debacle continues unabated for another week, and then some, I've learned even more disturbing things, like Princess Di and Prince Charles had an 'arranged' marriage, meeting no more than 13 times prior to their nuptials, and she had to be a virgin. 

Well, I enjoy the pop celebrity culture as much as the next person, but really? $13 million a year to prop them up and keep them in several castles, allowing them some stunning jewelry to wear on any occasion, and to allow their children to be 'crowned' as the next generation of monarchs....?
